چکیده
Abstract In this paper, the simulation–optimization method is used to study optimal location of cutoff walls for seawater intrusion. The optimization model based on minimizing chlorine concentration two water sources after 50 years. order reduce computational complexity, a Kriging surrogate simulation coupled with model. Finally, hypothetical case evaluate accuracy and performance results show that outputs variable density groundwater same wall design fit well, average relative error only 2.2% which proves it feasible apply problem. Modes of seawater intrusion during transgressions
Analytical methods and numerical experiments are used to study salinization of groundwater in response to sea level rise. The system that is studied involves a saturated porous medium with an inclined upper surface. The upper surface is progressively inundated during sea level rise to simulate transgression, the landward migration of the shoreline. Four "modes" of seawater intrusion are disting...
متن کاملFormal derivation of seawater intrusion models
In this paper, we consider the flow of fresh and saltwater in a saturated porous medium in order to describe the seawater intrusion. Starting from a formulation with constant densities respectively of fresh and of saltwater, whose velocity is proportional to the gradient of pressure (Darcy’s law), we consider the formal asymptotic shallow water limit as the ratio between the thickness and the h...
متن کاملContainment criterion for contaminant isolation by cutoff walls.
A rigorous solution is developed from first principles to guide the preliminary design of cutoff walls installed to contain the migration of contaminants from source zones. The full analytic solution is used to develop a criterion for determining the configuration and hydraulics of optimal wall designs. The solution is used to demonstrate the interaction between the properties of the wall, the ...
متن کاملExistence of Solutions for a Degenerate Seawater Intrusion Problem
We study a seawater intrusion problem in a confined aquifer. This process can be formulated as a coupled system of partial differential equations which includes an elliptic and a degenerate parabolic equation. Existence results of weak solutions, under realistic assumptions, are established through time discretization combined with parabolic regularization.
متن کاملDetermining the optimal number and location of cutoff points with application to data of cervical cancer
It is often helpful to classify biomarker values into groups of different risk levels to facilitate evaluation of a biological, physiological, or pathological state. Stratification of patients into two risk groups is commonly seen, but there is always need for more than two groups for fine assessment. So far, there are no standard methods or tools to help decide how many cutoff points are optim...
